When he came to this country with his parents their home was in Lynn, MA. Abraham Burtman came to Farmington in 1932, as a partner of the firm H. O. Rondeau Shoe Company. Burtman oversaw the expansion of the industry. The local business grew from one factory to five and employed hundreds from Rochester, Dover and surrounding communities. The business thrived until World War II when recessionary troubles began. Burtman died suddenly on March 26, 1946, during a vacation in Florida. Burtman was a very generous person and left money for several charitable purposes, one of which is now known as the Abraham Burtman Charity Trust.
